Sterling Bunnell

presents

The Evolution of Evolution

Today Sterling will address the issue of the different theories of evolution, going back to Darwin and before.  He will include the different phases of Darwin's own thought.  Evolution is an area that Sterling's brilliant mind is particularly attuned to and his thoughts on evolution will be the most up-to-date anywhere.

Sunday Meeting
Morning

February 17  at  10:30 am

David Moe

presents

Martha Nussbaum's Philosophy

David will introduce this famous liberal philosopher

who specializes in moral and political philosophy

including

human rights, women's rights, animal rights

David will draw out and explicate Martha Nussbaum's weltanschauung and some of her insights mainly from four books she wrote and edited:  The Fragility of Goodness, Frontiers of Justice, Hiding from Humanity, and For Love of Country?   His talk will be followed by an open questioning/dialogue/discussion.  Martha C. Nussbaum is very alive and well today.  She remains a wonderful feeling-thinker and scholar who presents new ideas and she is bringing back contingency concerns into ethics and what a good life is from her deep reading of Aristotle and the Tragic Poets -- in contrast to (with qualifications) philosophy's more current trends of utilitarian and Kantian perspectives in its pursuit and posits of happiness and the good.

Sterling Bunnell

presents

Protecting and Promoting

Future Evolution

Today Sterling will address the issue of how we humans might influence the future direction of evolution in a way which does not divert the stream of plant and animal populations into more dead ends.   The principles of nature and its ongoing evolution must be pretty well known and honored by humans.
