Linda
Hope Clarke
Fellowship
Lawyer
Activist for the Elderly
and
Performer
Born in Iowa, Linda
Hope Clarke lived in the Bay Area from a few months old
through 21. She graduated from Oakland High School in 1963
−
then moved
right away to L.A. because she wanted to be in show
business. She was a very talented singer and could
perform in front of thousands without feeling uncomfortable.
Even so, she will say that she didn't want to be in show
business anywhere nearly bad enough!
She went to work, earning minimum wage in several different
answering services in Hollywood and Beverly Hills and spoke
to a lot of celebrities of the time. She recorded an
album and recorded a single that was released in England.
She moved to San Diego in 1979 and lived there for 27 years.
She drove by Thomas Jefferson School of Law on her way to
her job as a clerk in the courthouse. One day she
decided to check it out. She graduated from there in
1985.
|
She's a natural lawyer:
she enjoys discussion and debate, sees more than one side to
most issues, and defends the underdog against the bully.
She became a lawyer in 1986 and has been in private practice
for about 16 years. For three years (1997-2000) she
worked for a charity and for two years a family law firm.
The charity provided free legal services for senior citizens
and Linda Hope helped perhaps 4000 older people during that
time. Seniors need all the help they can get. She
moved to Oakland in March of 2006. She has a Shih Tzu
named Queenie whom she found wandering loose in San Diego,
and they've been together for about seven years. Queenie is
approximately 15 years old and nearly blind, but she has
quite a bit of energy left.

She's back at home in Oakland, where she
